ADR dangerous goods road transport
Classes 2–9, certified driver, UN marking
ADR dangerous goods transport starts not with the truck but with the MSDS: the safety data sheet gives the UN number, class and packing group, which in turn define packaging, marking, vehicle type, driver certification and route. A classification error means a turn-back at the border or a fine on the road.
International ADR transport from Europe, Turkey and Central Asia follows one set of rules. China is not an ADR party: the Chinese leg runs under national rules (JT/T 617), so we prepare documents and marking so that the cargo complies with ADR from the moment it enters Russia.

Classification
From the MSDS we determine the UN number, class, packing group and special provisions, and check whether limited quantities or the 1.1.3.6 exemption apply.
1–2 days - 02
Packaging and marking
We check that packaging is UN-certified for the class and packing group and that packages show the UN number and hazard labels. If needed, we arrange repacking and marking.
1–3 days - 03
Vehicle and driver
We select a carrier with an ADR-certified driver and a vehicle suited to the class, and check the equipment kit and compatibility if several dangerous goods share the load.
1–2 days - 04
Documents and route
We issue the ADR transport document, written instructions and CMR, and check that border crossings and tunnels on the route accept this class, arranging clearance where required.
1–2 days - 05
Transit and delivery
The trip follows the agreed route with stops at permitted sites and GPS tracking. We deliver to the consignee, check packaging integrity and close the documents.

Problems
The MSDS is outdated, in Chinese only or lacks the transport section — the class is unclear and the carrier refuses to load.
We request a current MSDS from the manufacturer, arrange translation and, if data are missing, classification by an accredited laboratory.
Incompatible goods were loaded together — for example an oxidiser and a flammable liquid; the truck is stopped at an inspection.
We check mixed loading against the hazard labels before building the load; incompatible goods travel separately.
A DG truck arrives at a crossing that does not accept this class, or the route runs through a tunnel closed to the cargo.
Before departure we check crossings and tunnel restriction codes, plan the route with permitted stops and arrange clearance where required.
Documents
The document pack for dangerous goods. Under ADR the consignor is responsible for classification, packing and marking — assign this to the supplier in the contract.

FAQ
Yes, ADR transport cannot be arranged without an MSDS (SDS). Section 14 gives the UN number, class and packing group; if there is no data sheet or it is incomplete, we help order classification from an accredited laboratory.
An ADR transport document with UN number, proper shipping name, class, packing group and tunnel code, written instructions for the driver, the driver's training certificate and a CMR. Tank vehicles and certain vehicle types also need an ADR vehicle approval certificate. Commercial documents must match the ADR document in name and quantity.
Not always. A vehicle approval certificate is mandatory for tanks and FL, AT and EX vehicles; for packaged goods an equipped vehicle with orange plates and a certified driver is enough. Small consignments may fall under limited quantities or the ADR 1.1.3.6 exemption — we check this against the MSDS.
Lithium-ion batteries are class 9: UN 3480 for batteries alone, UN 3481 for batteries contained in or packed with equipment. A UN 38.3 test summary, correct packaging and marking are required. Small batteries benefit from ADR special provisions, while damaged ones face strict requirements.
No. Some crossings do not accept certain classes or handle them on a schedule after approval, and the route may include restricted tunnels. On lanes from China we also account for the Chinese leg running under national rules. We verify route eligibility before departure.
Yes. The TIR procedure does not exclude dangerous goods: the truck moves under a TIR Carnet and customs seal, while ADR requirements for packaging, marking, driver and vehicle are met in parallel. We check compatibility with the specific route by UN number.
